Lanzarote

Arrecife is the fourth port in importance in the Canary Islands. Companies are betting on Lanzarote, not only as a port of call like Aida or Tui cruises, but also as a port of embarkation for Pullmantur or MSC Cruises.
Lanzarote has many points of interests like National Park of Timanfaya, La Geria, or La cueva de los verdes. It was also home of the known artist Cesar Manrique, who spread his work thoughout the Canary Islands (for example the swimming pools in Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Los Jameos del Agua or Mirador del Rio in Lanzarote).

OFFICIAL EXCURSIONS: There's one excursion to Mirador del Rio and Jameos del Agua, another to Timanfaya National Park, the Volcanoes route... Anyone can be a good option, but if you have not visited the island I recommend choosing the one that includes Jameos del Agua. It is unique.

ALTERNATIVES: Lanzarote has the great advantage of being well connected. You can get from one side of the island to the other in less than an hour. So my alternative is to rent a car and visit the island on your own. Near the pier there is a small building with a car rental office CICAR (pick up and deliver it right there). If you choose this option I recommend leaving early to avoid queues at the rental office in order to save time and take a route to Mirador del Rio, Cueva de los Verdes, Jameos del Agua and Cesar Manrique Foundation, eat in Puerto del Carmen and finish the tour walking through the main street in Arrecife.
Another option is to take the shuttle bus ($) that leaves you next  to the city center, see one of Arrecife's atractions Charco de San Ginés, and go to the main street of Arrecife (León y Castillo), drink something in a bar and buy some souvenirs.

SHOPPING: In León y Castillo you'll find lots of shops, so it can be an alternative if you forgot to pack something in your luggage.

WHERE TO EAT: If you have chosen to visit the island on your own I recommend to arrive at lunchtime (depending on the cruise departure) to Puerto del Carmen. In the old fishing port there are two restaurants Puerto Viejo and Puerto Bahia. Either can be a good place eat some canarian food
